The Turkish Armed Forces Ammunition Separation and Sorting Facility (MAAT), modernized under the agreement signed on September 18, 2015 between the Ministry of National Defense of the Republic of Türkiye and the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA), was officially commissioned on February 5, 2020 in a ceremony attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
Altınay Havacılık ve İleri Teknolojileri Inc., serving as the solution partner of the main contractor Roketsan Inc., undertook critical responsibilities during both the installation and modernization phases of the project.
The systems and equipment installed by ALTINAY enable all demilitarization processes—including dismantling, separation, cutting, unloading, purification, and explosive handling—to be carried out through fully automation-based operations. The MAAT Facility, where decommissioned conventional ammunition, rockets, missiles, and mines are safely separated and processed with priority given to human and environmental safety, consists of 12 workshops, 17 service buildings, and 3 ammunition storage facilities.
Through more than 20 processing lines and over 60 pieces of equipment installed by ALTINAY across 6 workshops, the facility has the capacity to recycle up to 6,000 tons (45 different types) of ammunition annually.
With its commissioning, the facility integrates systems largely designed and manufactured domestically by ALTINAY’s expert engineering team with over 10 years of experience. These systems are produced and certified in compliance with international explosive safety standards.
We take great pride, as the ALTINAY family, in contributing to the realization of this technologically advanced facility—one of its kind globally—and in supporting our country’s defense capabilities. We wish that the facility serves our nation with lasting benefit.
